Participation and influence
People accept decisions they did not choose, if they were genuinely heard.
Participation does not mean decision by consensus. It means people affected by a decision have a real opportunity to influence it before it is made.
Perceived influence predicts change readiness more strongly than the content of the change itself.
The most common failure is consultation after the decision. It is experienced as theatre and reduces trust more than no consultation at all.
